Science Fair Important Dates

What we are working on for Science Fair:
           - All assignments are to be turned into Ms. Snyder
           - Assignments are accepted early if students would like to get ahead.
           - Science Fair projects will be worked on at school with minimal work having to be done at home. 

Week of Sept. 11th: Introduce Science Fair

Week of Sept. 18th: Scientific Method and writing your Question

Week of Sept. 25th: Developing a Research Plan (Research Question/Proposal Due)

Weeks of Oct. 2nd - Nov. 17th: Working on research questions, research of answers to questions and writing of Research paper.  

Week of Nov. 13th: As research papers are turned in, we will review variables, materials and experiment procedures.  

Week of Nov. 20th: Research paper is due to Ms. Snyder before leaving for Thanksgiving.  (Hard typed copy or Google share is accepted.) ***Be sure your name is on your paper!!!!***

Week of Nov. 27th - Dec. 15th: Time for EXPERIMENTS!!!! 
                   - Experiments completed (****ALL EXPERIMENTS WILL BE COMPLETED AT SCHOOL UNLESS PRE-APPROVED TO WORK AT HOME.****)
                   - Analyze your data and draw a conclusion.
                   - Communicate your results (ie. Science Fair display board)

January 5th:  If students wish to compete at the county level, students need to bring their completed project to the STEM lab before 9am.  Winners here will be able to move onto the next level. (***This is a change!!! Stanly County notified us late about their date for their fair***) 
                    If you are selected as school representative to attend the Stanly County Science Fair:
                      - January 9th: 3:00-5:00pm student drop off 
                      - January 10th: 3:00-4:00pm public viewing 4:00-5:00pm student pick-up

January 12th:  OCSS Science Fair and 2nd Quarter Showcase!!!  
               - All community members are welcome!
               - Students will vote on their classes top 3 projects.  Those projects will move onto the Schoolwide Fair.


February 16th-17th: Region 6 Science Fair
               - Students must win at the county level to participate
               - Students will be competing against students from: Mecklenburg, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Rowan, Cabarrus, Stanly, Union, Anson, and Iredell Counties.  
                - Winners will move onto the NC State Science Fair
